100 Mbps FTTH expansion for Bournemouth announced

More homes in Bournemouth are set to have access to FTTH fibre-optic broadband.

CityFibre Holdings is to rollout additional Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) fibre-optic broadband services to an additional 20,000 homes in Bournemouth.

Greg Mesch of CityFibre told local publication the Bournemouth Echo that this latest development will offer a "far greater experience" for home internet users in the area, with the company looking to extend its reach to up to 70,000 homes over the next 18 months.

It is hoping to deliver its FTTH expansion to the 20,000 properties by the end of the year, with further plans to increase the fibre-optic broadband network in the pipeline.

The FTTH network will deliver transfer rates of up to 100 Mbps, with Bournemouth council being "very supportive" of the initiative, Mr Mesch has claimed.

Elsewhere, Kent County Council is presently tendering for companies to take part in a new superfast broadband scheme in the county as part of a £44.3 million investment in the service over the next four years.
