Alloa included in BT's fibre broadband rollout

Wednesday, December 19th 2012 by Paul France
Super-fast broadband is now available to the first Alloa properties.

Alloa is one of the latest Scottish communities to be included in BT's national fibre optic broadband rollout in a move that has been welcomed by local MP Gordon Banks.

The town is the first location in Clackmannanshire to gain access to the service, with more than 13,000 homes and businesses set to be upgraded over the coming weeks.

Another local community, Alva, is due to be upgraded in the near future, while over 15,700 properties across Clackmannanshire will be able to receive super-fast broadband within the next 12 months.

Further locations to be included in the company's fibre broadband rollout will be unveiled in the coming months and BT is also working with the Scottish government and its agencies to reach parts of the country beyond its current commercial network.

Responding to the news, MP for Ochil and South Perthshire Gordon Banks said: "This is a significant step for Alloa. High-speed digital connectivity is a defining factor in our long-term success."
