Bath and North East Somerset LCA welcomes fibre broadband rollout

Monday, September 30th 2013 by Paul France
Bath and North East Somerset Local Council Association claims the introduction of fibre optic broadband will be invaluable to the area's economy.

A project that will see fibre optic broadband access made available in 90 per cent of homes in Bath and North East Somerset will be invaluable to businesses, according to the area's Local Council Association (LCA).

Peter Duppa-Miller, the organisation's Secretary, explained how the news has come not a moment too soon as local businesses fight to stay competitive with rivals based in more urbanised areas.

He cited superfast connection speeds as being central to ensuring business owners could remain on an even keel in their market and deliver adequate products and services.

Mr Duppa-Miller said: "Many people operate their businesses from home, which requires both fast download and upload speeds to ensure that they can meet the needs of their customers."

He went on to say that as well as the economic issues the new connections would address, the social benefits could not be underestimated. This led to him urging others to pile the pressure on local Councillors to ensure the rollout covers as much of the region as possible.
