B&B considering legal action over fibre leak

A B&B owner is considering taking legal action after a hole dug by contractors for a BT fibre optic line flooded.

The owner of a hotel in Leyburn is considering legal action over a water-filled hole left by BT contractors digging a fibre optic cable network.

Nigel Mould, who manages the Grade-II listed Grove House bed and breakfast says the hole is both "unsightly" and a safety risk.

Mr Mould told the local Darlington and Stockton Times: "With the Tour de France being a major tourist attraction in July and planned to pass directly in front of Grove House, we would hope common sense can prevail."

BT said the project had been approved by the local council and the underground water was delaying the filing of the hole, which was expected to have been completed earlier this year.

A spokesperson from the firm added that the Leyburn area has been plagued by poor broadband speeds in recent years and that this cabling system would help to alleviate this issue for local residents and businesses.
