Bourne Business Chamber hails fibre broadband launch

Tuesday, January 8th 2013 by Nigel Adie
The rollout of super-fast broadband in Bourne has been praised by a local business organisation.

Bourne Business Chamber has welcomed the launch of fibre optic broadband in the Lincolnshire town.

BT is rolling out the technology to homes and businesses across the town as part of its £2.5 billion national deployment programme, which will see super-fast speeds extended to two-thirds of the country by the end of next spring.

According to the Stamford Mercury, Bourne Business Chamber president Paul Ross said the upgrade is good news for the area - and particularly so for local employers.

"Anything positive like this is fantastic for the town," he commented. "It proves that Lincolnshire is not the dead end county it is sometimes portrayed as."

Mr Ross, a resident of nearby Kirkby Underwood, said the next step will be to bring faster broadband speeds to rural communities across Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire County Council is aiming to boost rural connectivity and has been running a survey to assess levels of demand for fibre broadband, with more than 10,000 responses received to date.
