Bourne residents launch fibre broadband campaign

A group of residents in rural Bourne have set up a campaign to bring fibre broadband to the area.

Residents from the more rural parts of Stamford and Bourne have launched a community campaign to bring superfast fibre optic broadband to their villages.

FibreLincs has been set up by Ben Haines, who found it hard to cope without high-speed broadband when he moved to the area from London, Bourne Local reports.

With help from a group of equally passionate residents, Mr Haines has ambitious plans to build his own fibre broadband network to serve the community.

He said: "With the support of local residents and run as a cooperative by the community, FibreLincs proposes to take matters into its own hands and build its own high-speed all-fibre network."

Mr Haines added that superfast broadband is "the fourth utility" and that homes and businesses in rural communities need to be connected to the service just as much as those in more urban areas do.
