A new broadband deal has been struck in Worcestershire.

A new deal has been struck between Worcestershire County Council and BT that will deliver improved broadband services to almost 10,000 properties across the area in the coming months.

Worcester News reports new fibre optic cabling will be installed across the county that will deliver faster download speeds and improved access to superfast services for 9,800 homes and businesses across communities including Upton-upon-Severn, Inkberrow and Wychbold, among others.

Once complete, the project aims to deliver transfer rates of up to 80 Mbps for customers.

Cabinet Member for the Economy, Skills and Infrastructure at Worcestershire County Council Simon Geraghty said: "This is great news for homes and businesses in Worcestershire and means even more people will be able to benefit from fibre optic broadband."

He added that this latest push to improve broadband coverage will ensure 90 per cent of county residents will have access to superfast connections by mid-2016.
