BT chooses Global Marine Systems for Scottish rollout

BT will collaborate with Global marine Systems as part of a Scottish fibre broadband rollout.

BT has announced it will once again collaborate with engineering firm Global Marine Systems in order to complete a fibre optic broadband rollout project in Scotland.

The Digital Scotland project will bring superfast speeds to around 39,000 homes and businesses in some of the most rural areas of Scotland.

However, in order to install the network, the service provider must lay sub-sea fibre optic cables in some areas - one of Global Marine Systems' core services.

This is the biggest project to date that has required undersea installations, but thanks to a number of successful partnerships with Global Marine Systems in the past, BT bosses are confident the ambitious network will be a success.

BT Scotland Director Brendan Dick said: "BT has worked with Global Marine Systems on several occasions, and we have full trust in the company’s capability to plan optimal cable routes."

He went on to say that one of the most complex tasks involved in the rollout would involve planning the dedicated routes that cables will take.
