BT fibre broadband praised by Cornwall business

Entertainment and telecoms firm Orbiss has pointed out the many benefits offered by fibre optic broadband.

One of the first businesses in Cornwall to be connected to BT's fibre optic broadband service has spoken out about the benefits of the technology.

Karen Patterson, director of Orbiss - a provider of telecoms and entertainment systems to the hospitality industry - said super-fast broadband access has allowed the firm to operate across the country and compete with much larger companies.

"To take just one example, we are now using super-fast broadband to distribute the latest movies to our hotel customers around the UK faster than ever before," she explained.

Based in Greenbottom near Truro, Orbiss has recently increased its workforce to 11 and announced plans to expand further in the future.

Ms Patterson's comments came as BT revealed around half of the 100 exchanges in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly will be connected to fibre broadband within the next 18 months.

Announcing the project last year, BT chief executive Ian Livingston said the work will position the south-west county as a "broadband leader".
