BT Infinity fibre broadband launches in Knowle

The West Midlands village now has access to the technology.

BT Infinity broadband will be available to more than 7,300 properties in Knowle, West Midlands, the telecoms giant has announced.

The move comes as part of BT's plans to spend £2.5 billion on the technology in a bid to bring it to two-thirds of homes and businesses in the UK by 2015.

It is already available to the first premises in Knowle, with the rollout set to be finished over the next few weeks.

John Dovey, BT's regional director for the West Midlands, described the news as an "exciting development" in the area's "fast-moving broadband story".

He added: "The advent of BT fibre-based broadband in Knowle will support local jobs and the local economy and is a vital part of BT's broadband plans."

Last month, the organisation unveiled 41 market towns across the UK that will be hooked up to its fibre optic broadband network by spring 2012.

Around 300,000 firms and consumers are in line to benefit from the work.
