BT Openreach invites ISPs to trial premium FTTP services

Communications providers can now sign up for the trial of BT's up to 330Mbps FTTP packages.

BT Openreach is inviting internet service providers (ISPs) to take part in the trial of its "premium" fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband proposition.

The pilot scheme will be primarily based on two products - an ultra-fast fibre optic broadband package with up to 330Mbps download rates and another with a headline rate of 80Mbps.

Upload capabilities of up to 30Mbps will be offered by the faster package, while the 80Mbps option will come with maximum upstream speeds of 20Mbps.

During the technical trial, Openreach will attempt to gain insight into how the network functions and will also look to validate changes in its operational process and internal communications to make sure they are fit for purpose.

"Openreach are looking to support any communications provider in this phase that can commence trial activity as soon as possible, as long as they register interest by May 20th 2012," the company explained.

Earlier this month, BT claimed a UK first by completing the installation of its FTTP service to multiple office units at a site in Milton Keynes.
