People living in Twyford could soon benefit from better broadband access.

Businesses and residents in Twyford could be set to benefit from improved broadband access, as one provider has submitted an application for a rollout.

BT Openreach has lodged plans with Wokingham Borough Council that outline three DSLAM cable boxes that could boost connection in the region, Get Wokingham reports.

Councillor Stephen Conway, ward member for Twyford, said: "A lot of people do experience very frustrating delays in our area because their speed is not very good, but this seems as if it's going to make things easier."

Speeds of up to 60Mbps could be in the pipeline if plans are approved as the introduction of fibre optic broadband cables would enable better access to higher speeds.

News of the application comes following the announcement that BT Openreach has expanded its services in Northern Ireland.

Some 215,000 premises in the country will be provided with high-speed broadband by March 2012 as a result of a new fibre to the cabinet rollout.
