A new deal has been struck for telecoms services between BT and Lancashire council.

BT has announced the signing of a ten-year deal with Lancashire County Council for the provision of broadband and telecoms services under a new joint venture partnership.

Leader of Lancashire County Council Geoff Driver said: "Improving county council services and providing value for money for taxpayers is crucial to everything we do and the strategic partnership is a key part of this."

He added that through the combination of BT's expertise in telecoms and the council's efforts to reduce red tape and bureaucracy, the new £400 million partnership will provide better value for the Lancashire taxpayer.

Meanwhile, BT recently announced it has added two new areas to its superfast broadband network in the UK - Midsomer Norton and Radstock in north-east Somerset.

John Betty, strategic director for development and major projects at Bath and North East Somerset Council, noted that this represents a significant investment in the area from both BT and the local government.
