BT rolling out fibre broadband link between Kilmarnock medical centres

Friday, September 6th 2013 by Paul France
Two Kilmarnock medical facilities are set to be linked by a fibre optic broadband service delivered by BT.

BT is rolling out a fibre optic broadband link between two Kilmarnock medical practices in a bid to improve the experience of patients.

At present, patients are unable to make appointments or collect prescriptions from the Hurlford practice, with the issues being blamed on a fault with the connection between the site and the main Kilmarnock surgery on Portland Road, reports the Kilmarnock Standard.

A spokesman for BT revealed the telecoms giant has been asked to install a private circuit between the two practices in order to replace the existing broadband connection, even though the company has insisted that no fault has been found on the line.

It takes between 60 and 90 days to deploy the sort of circuit required by the medical facilities, the spokesman said, so in the meantime BT is addressing the issue by deploying a fibre optic link.

"As an interim measure, we are in the process of installing a fibre broadband link between the practices which will deliver much improved upload speeds," he explained.
