More premises in the town of Bushey Heath will be hooked up to BT's fibre broadband service over the coming weeks.

Up to 7,000 homes and businesses in a Hertfordshire town are set to get access to BT's fibre optic broadband service.

Bushey Heath has been named as the latest location to be included in the telecoms giant's fibre broadband rollout plans, with the upgrade work set to be completed in the next few weeks.

As a result of this announcement, around 243,000 properties in Hertfordshire are now either connected to the next-generation broadband technology, or will be in the near future.

Regional director for BT in east England Dave Hughes said the service will offer a "huge boost" to commercial and residential customers in the area.

"BT's investment in fibre broadband will benefit the county's ability to compete and the wider local economy," he added.

In April, the company announced more than 15,000 additional properties in Hertfordshire are due to be connected to its super-fast broadband network by the end of next year at the latest.

Letchworth and Tring are among the communities set to benefit from the work.
