Some 30,000 Shrewsbury properties will be hooked up to super-fast broadband in the coming weeks.

BT will roll out fibre optic broadband to tens of thousands of Shrewsbury properties over the next few weeks, the telecoms giant has announced.

The service will be extended to almost 30,000 homes and businesses in the Shropshire town, taking the number of premises in the county with access to the technology to more than 36,000, reports the Shropshire Star.

In the coming months, BT will deploy super-fast broadband to a further 37,000 commercial and residential properties in Shropshire, with Baschurch, Dawley and Newport among the locations set to benefit from the work.

Baschurch was one of ten communities to win BT's Race to Infinity vote, which aimed to identify the rural towns and villages with the highest levels of demand for fibre broadband connectivity.

John Dovey, regional director for the West Midlands at BT, commented: "Nobody is doing more than BT to roll out faster broadband across the region and we want to go further."
