The Connected Communities programme brings fibre optic broadband to Butlers Cross in Buckinghamshire.

Butlers Cross, a Buckinghamshire village, has become the first location to be connected to a high-speed fibre optic broadband service via a roadside cabinet as part of the Connected Counties campaign.

The programme was launched last June and aims to spend over £18 million on connecting communities in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire to the superfast service in association with BT.

Connected Counties has been led by Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire County Council, who said: "In the 21st century, access to high quality, high-speed broadband is essential for companies."

Approximately 200 people in Butlers Cross will be able to access fibre broadband thanks to the roadside box being upgraded, news that has been welcomed by local business owners and residents who previously experienced slow speeds and unreliable connections.

Myles Hick, Director of Avtel - a security company based in the area - said having access to high-speed broadband will enable his firm to connect to video conferences quicker than before and will reduce the need for travel as an increased number of meetings will be able to take place over the internet.
