Call for clarity on Shropshire broadband

Wednesday, April 1st 2015 by Editorial
Shropshire residents want a firm commitment regarding the rollout of better broadband across the county.

Campaigners in Shropshire have contacted MPs to bemoan the lack of progress in delivering superfast download rates to many rural areas.

With the government promising to roll out ultrafast download speeds of up to 100 Mbps for communities across the country in the years to come ahead of the impending general election, the Shropshire Star reports candidates across the county's constituencies are now being quizzed on their broadband plans.

Patrick Cosgrove of the Shropshire and Marches Campaign for Better Broadband in Rural Areas has been in touch with all those seeking election this year to help clarify their position, but he noted many remote communities are yet to have any firm commitment for the delivery of connectivity improvements.

He told the news provider: "Large numbers of people in the countryside remain in the dark about if or when they will get faster broadband."

Mr Cosgrove added that the delivery of high-speed internet is essential in ensuring the county does not fall behind the rest of the country.
