Cononley residents' fibre broadband hopes raised

People living in Cononley may be able to access fibre optic broadband despite originally being told otherwise.

Cononley, a village in North Yorkshire, was told by BT that the area would not be able to connect to fibre optic broadband due to the lack of an appropriate site for a second exchange box to be installed.

However, residents' hopes have been raised after a suitable spot has been found in Cononley Park.

This means that the village may get access to superfast fibre optic broadband when it rolls out across the rest of North Yorkshire.

Julian Smith, MP for South Craven, told the Telegraph and Argus: "It was great to meet with the fantastic councillors in Cononley to hear about the land they have found in the village."

He added that he is looking forward to seeing what steps BT and Superfast North Yorkshire take to connect Cononley to fibre optic broadband in the near future.

Parish Council Chairman Lois Brown has also welcomed the news and said Cononley is glad to be back in the running for the superfast service.
