Cornwall a leader on fibre broadband uptake, says BT

BT says Cornwall is one of the top UK counties when it comes to superfast broadband take-up.

Cornwall is one of the strongest performing counties in the UK in terms of fibre optic broadband uptake, according to BT.

Around 50,000 homes and businesses across the county have either been connected to superfast broadband or have placed an order for the service, meaning almost a fifth of local properties can already access the technology or will be able to do so in the near future.

More than 2,000 homes and businesses are currently being hooked up to fibre broadband every month thanks to the Superfast Cornwall rollout, which is aiming to reach 95 per cent of premises by the end of 2014.

One of the Cornish businesses to have benefited from the deployment is Dogbite, a creative production studio based in Falmouth, which has found it easier to attract new business since being connected to fibre-to-the-premises broadband in early 2013.

General Manager Michelle Taylor said: "Dogbite has really grown since the arrival of superfast broadband. The technology is absolutely vital for us."
