The technology enables firms to make full use of cloud computing, Fasthosts has said.

Business internet service provider (ISP) Fasthosts has announced the launch of a new fibre optic broadband product.

The package offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps - more than seven times faster than the UK average - along with maximum upload capabilities of 10Mbps.

According to the company, the technology allows users to boost their productivity and take full advantage of a range of applications, including cloud computing and hosted services.

Steve Holford, the ISP's marketing director, said businesses should not have to put up with "substandard" support if they choose a single provider for all their internet functionality.

"With Fasthosts, firms can benefit from truly business-class broadband alongside high performance and award-winning UK hosting services," he added.

The company launched back in 1999 and was ranked the UK's second fastest growing technology firm three years later in the Sunday Times TechTrack 100.

It has also unveiled a range of new ADSL packages that deliver speeds of up to 24Mbps.
