Penzance town centre should have access to fibre broadband by next spring.

Fibre broadband is finally on its way to Penzance town centre, leaders of the Superfast Cornwall rollout project have confirmed.

Speaking to the Cornishman, Programme Director of the connectivity initiative Nigel Ashcroft stated: "The installation of fibre to the premises broadband in the centre of Penzance is one of our key priorities for the months ahead."

This follows concerns from businesses based in the town centre that they were to be left out of the better broadband rollout, which would potentially hinder their progress.

However, it will not be until next spring that the high-speed technology arrives in Penzance centre.

Mr Ashcroft said he hoped it would be available in the area by March 2015, if not before.

Overall, Superfast Cornwall has brought fibre broadband to around 90 per cent of homes and businesses throughout the county.

Approximately 82 per cent of Penzance premises can currently access the superfast service, but it now looks as though the remainder will also be gaining a connection to the fibre network in the near future.
