Fibre broadband goes live in Morningside

Friday, June 7th 2013 by Paul France
Hundreds of properties in Morningside, Edinburgh can now access fibre broadband from BT.

BT is rolling out fibre optic broadband in the Morningside area of Edinburgh, allowing local residents and businesses to enjoy super-fast speeds.

Hundreds of properties have already been connected, with more than 6,500 set to be upgraded when the project is completed in the coming weeks.

The telecoms giant's latest investment in Edinburgh's broadband infrastructure will take the number of premises in the Scottish capital passed by the fibre optic network to almost 75,000. By the end of spring 2014, this figure is set to rise to around 178,000.

Across the UK, BT's fibre broadband footprint covers over 15 million homes and businesses and is due to pass two-thirds of premises during next spring.

The arrival of fibre optic connectivity in Morningside was welcomed by Edinburgh Southern MSP Jim Eadie, who said: "The work of BT and their local network business, Openreach, is to be commended, as their state-of-the-art broadband brings faster and more efficient internet technology into both the home and the workplace."
