Fibre broadband rolled out to 2,800 Ripon properties

The Superfast North Yorkshire project has brought fibre broadband to Ripon.

Fibre optic broadband has been rolled out to hundreds of homes and businesses in Ripon as part of the Superfast North Yorkshire (SNY) scheme.

Around 2,800 properties in the location - which is England's fourth smallest city - are now able to access the service, with SNY holding a demonstration at the local marketplace last week to illustrate the benefits of the technology, reports the Northern Echo.

The project is a partnership between BT and the county council that aims to bring fibre broadband to 90 per cent of premises across North Yorkshire by the end of 2014, allowing the majority of residents and businesses to enjoy speeds of at least 25Mbps.

Bill Murphy, Managing Director of Next Generation Access at the BT Group, said the arrival of faster broadband is an exciting development for Ripon.

"This whole project is about helping communities like Ripon - this is going to be fantastic for everyone," he added.
