Fibre broadband rolled out to first Dartmouth homes

Tuesday, October 9th 2012 by Paul France
Super-fast broadband is now available to properties in Dartmouth.

Homes and businesses in Dartmouth can now access fibre optic broadband from BT for the first time.

Over the coming weeks, the telecoms giant will bring super-fast broadband to around 3,000 local properties, shortly after carrying out similar upgrades in Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Exeter and Ivybridge.

BT's investment in Dartmouth is expected to provide a major boost to the area, with a recent study from Regeneris Consulting revealing that fibre broadband could help the economy of a typical town to the tune of £143 million over the next 15 years.

The Dartmouth rollout is part of BT's £2.5 billion plan to bring next-generation access to two-thirds of properties across the country by the end of 2014.

Dr Sarah Wollaston, MP for the Totnes constituency, of which Dartmouth is a part, said: "High-speed digital connectivity is a defining factor in our long-term success.

"BT's investment in super-fast broadband allows us to create new opportunities, growth and future potential."
