Fibre broadband rolled out to more Bournemouth properties

Wednesday, October 17th 2012 by Nigel Adie
BT is rolling out super-fast broadband to more than 10,000 properties in Westbourne.

BT has expanded its fibre optic broadband footprint in Bournemouth, bringing the number of local properties with access to the technology to more than 62,000.

The first homes and businesses in the residential and shopping area of Westbourne can now access super-fast broadband, with over 10,000 premises set to be connected over the coming weeks.

Fibre optic broadband has already gone live in nearby Boscombe, Southborne and Winton, while another 11,000 properties in central Bournemouth will be upgraded later this year.

In 2013, BT will also roll out next-generation broadband to nearly premises 10,000 in Northbourne.

By the end of the year, the company was planning to extend its fibre broadband coverage to ten million properties, but this milestone was actually reached several months ahead of schedule.

Peter Speroni, Superfast Dorset programme manager for Dorset County Council, said: "Improving electronic connectivity, particularly through high-speed broadband, is a key priority. The overall aim is to deliver growth."
