BT is set to roll out super-fast broadband to 153,000 properties in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Tens of thousands more properties across Yorkshire and the Humber will be able to access fibre optic broadband during 2013, BT has announced.

Some 153,000 homes and businesses in 18 communities are set to benefit from the rollout, adding to the more than 860,000 premises in the region that have already been upgraded.

Among the areas to be included in BT's latest super-fast broadband rollout are Acomb, Batley, Huddersfield, Queensbury, Penistone and Aston Common.

John Anderson, BT's regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said fibre optic broadband will transport residents and businesses to a "new, high-speed world".

"This latest major investment will help the region to overcome the current economic challenges and take full advantage of the upturn when it comes," he added.

BT is not the only company currently rolling out next-generation broadband in the area.

KC is also expanding its fibre broadband footprint across east Yorkshire and is planning to bring the service to 15,000 local properties by the end of the year.
