Fibre broadband upgrade for Dundee's Fairmuir exchange

Wednesday, December 12th 2012 by Miles Northrop
Super-fast broadband is now available in the Fairmuir area of Dundee.

Dundee's Fairmuir exchange has become one of the latest in the UK to benefit from BT's national fibre optic broadband rollout.

Engineers are due to complete the local upgrade in the coming weeks, with more than 12,600 homes and businesses poised to gain access to super-fast broadband.

Fairmuir - including the Downfield, St Mary's, Ardler and Bridgefoot areas of the city - is benefiting from the deployment after similar work was carried out on the nearby Dundee Broughty Ferry and Dundee Park exchanges.

Upgrade work is also set to be carried out at Dundee Baxter, while almost 39,000 properties across the city will be connected by the end of next year.

Welcoming the news, Dundee City West MSP Joe FitzPatrick expressed his delight that premises throughout his constituency are set to be hooked up to fibre broadband.

"Super-fast fibre broadband will not only boost jobs, it will transform the business sector and attract new inward investment," he commented.
