Fibrestream boss hails progress at broadband delivery talks

Guy Jarvis said BT signalled an "intriguing" change in thinking at a meeting last week.

The chief executive of fibre optic broadband provider Fibrestream has praised the progress made at a telecoms industry meeting last week.

Writing on the official Fibrestream blog, Guy Jarvis said the talks on broadband delivery at Carlisle Racecourse had been an "excellent event" and revealed it had involved BT signalling an "intriguing" change in thinking.

He explained Bill Murphy, head of next generation access at the telecoms giant, hinted that BT may be willing to work with small-scale community fibre optic cable broadband projects in the future in a bid to increase access to the technology.

"Realising the government's vision for Britain to have the best super-fast broadband network in Europe by 2015 means realising that this will only happen when everyone works together," Mr Jarvis remarked.

These comments come despite Sally Davis, chief executive of BT Openreach, recently telling the Financial Times that compatibility issues could result from the creation of a large number of different broadband networks in rural areas.
