FTTH broadband will be available in 20 locations across the UK once Fluidata completes its newly-announced rollout.

Fluidata has unveiled plans to roll out fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband to 50,000 commercial and residential premises across the UK.

In partnership with Independent Fibre Networks Limited, the business broadband provider will deploy the technology at 20 sites, bringing speeds of up to 1Gbps to each of these communities.

Managing director of Fluidata Piers Daniell said the rollout represents "a big step forward" for the country and demonstrates that FTTH fibre optic broadband is a "viable and sensible" long-term option to improve connectivity.

"It also shows that fibre can be commercially deployed on scale without government hand-outs, which compliments the work we are doing in rural communities," he added.

Fluidata is not the only internet service provider planning to increase access to FTTH technology.

BT announced the commercial launch of its FTTH product in ten communities across England in November and is looking to increase the footprint of the technology over the coming months.

More than 300,000 households currently get fibre optic broadband from BT.
