John Armstrong has been named as Hyperoptic's new non-executive director.

London-based fibre optic broadband provider Hyperoptic has announced the appointment of a new non-executive director.

John 'Louis' Armstrong, who served as chief executive of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) from 1998 to 2010, will play a key role in developing the network operator's property strategy.

His knowledge of the construction, development and property sectors is expected to complement the company's pioneering fibre-to-the-building broadband technology.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Armstrong said he is very excited to be joining Hyperoptic at a "pivotal stage" in the company's development.

"I take great pleasure in working with young, dynamic companies," he stated.

Hyperoptic's managing director Dana Tobak added: "Working with Louis gives us confidence that we will be taking the right steps to get to where we want to be."

Since it was established in May 2011, Hyperoptic claims to have become the first broadband provider in the UK to enable 1Gbps download speeds.

Prices Court, a residential development in Wandsworth, was the first location to benefit from the rollout.
