FTTC broadband could be in the pipeline for Ewhurst and Cranleigh

BT Openreach fibre broadband could be rolled out across some areas in Surrey.

Residents of Ewhurst and Cranleigh in Surrey could be in line for BT Openreach fibre broadband if plans to introduce fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) resources go ahead.

Campaigners for faster internet access in the area have stated it is in the pipeline for a rollout, but the company has yet to make an official announcement, Get Surrey reports.

Chairman of the independent Ewhurst and Surrey Hills Broadband Project and parish councillor Chris Lyth said: "Feedback suggests that Cranleigh and Ewhurst will be upgraded to FTTC by March 2012."

People living in the areas can expect faster internet connections as a result but actual speeds will depend on their distance from the cabinet.

BT said announcements for more FTTC installations are "planned for the future", but did not mention any specific regions.

The news comes following an announcement that BT Openreach has lodged a planning application with Wokingham Borough Council to install three DSLAM cable broadband boxes in Twyford, Get Wokingham has stated.
