Gigaclear adds more rural communities to fibre broadband rollout

Wednesday, November 6th 2013 by Paul France
Another three communities have been included in Gigaclear's rural ultrafast broadband programme.

Gigaclear has confirmed it will roll out ultrafast fibre-to-the-premises broadband to a further three rural communities.

Farmoor and Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire, and Underriver and surrounding villages in Kent, can look forward to receiving speeds of up to 1,000Mbps as a result of the project. In total, the move is expected to benefit 1,500 homes and four business parks.

According to the network operator, the deployment will "transform" the online experience for residents in each of these communities, slashing the time taken to download films from up to four hours to just a matter of minutes.

Gigaclear installs its infrastructure in places that have not currently been - and are unlikely to be - included in fibre optic broadband rollouts.

To be eligible, communities must include 400 properties or more and a minimum of 30 per cent of households must sign up.

Matthew Hare, Chief Executive at Gigaclear, said he expects the company's momentum to "increase further as more communities choose to drive their own broadband initiatives forward".
