Hull fibre broadband project hailed by Prescott

Monday, December 23rd 2013 by Paul France
Cross Manufacturing has experienced a dip in profits during 2012-13.

An initiative that has seen fibre optic broadband introduced to more than 120 homes and businesses in the Sutton area of Hull has been praised by Lord Prescott.

The Labour politician was speaking following the switch-on of the local exchange, which has been upgraded thanks to the efforts of independent service provider KC.

Lord Prescott told the Hull Daily Mail the upgrade was an important step for the area that would help the region become a front-runner in the cutting-edge digital infrastructure.

However, he also declared himself delighted that a local company had been able to carry out the work without government subsidies, saying: "It's even better to know that KC is delivering this at no cost to the public purse."

His comments come after criticisms regarding the progress of the coalition government's Broadband Delivery UK project, which has been employing BT to upgrade fibre optic exchanges all over the UK.

KC has already brought superfast speeds to more than 25,000 properties in Hull and the surrounding areas.
