Hyperoptic chief calls for universal FTTH broadband

Friday, November 2nd 2012 by Paul France
Bringing FTTH connectivity to every UK home would benefit the economy, Hyperoptic chairman Boris Ivanovic has said.

Rolling out fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband to every property in the UK would give the economy a major boost, according to Hyperoptic chairman Boris Ivanovic.

Speaking to London Loves Business, Mr Ivanovic said universal ultra-fast broadband connectivity would provide both short and long-term gains for the country.

In the near future, rolling out the fibre optic broadband technology would lead to the creation of more jobs in the telecoms sector, while in the long term it would bring about a cultural shift in the UK, he claimed.

"It would position the country as a high-tech nation," the Hyperoptic chief explained. "People could work from home, using their gigabit internet connections."

Consequently, Mr Ivanovic argued the £30 billion set to be invested in the government's high-speed rail plan would be far more productively spent on the rollout of FTTH networks.

Hyperoptic is currently increasing its FTTH coverage in London, having recently announced agreements with more than 30 of the capital's most significant property developments.
