KC proud of FTTP broadband investment

Sean Royce of KC explains the benefits of investing in FTTP.

KC says uptake of its ultra-fast fibre optic broadband service is a testament to its decision to invest in next-generation network technology.

Rather than continuing to rely on its copper infrastructure to deliver broadband, the east Yorkshire internet service provider chose to fund the rollout of an extensive fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network.

The company's Lightstream fibre broadband product can already be accessed by 15,000 properties across the region, with around 3,500 having made the switch so far.

On one street, Poplars Way in the market town of Beverley, 45 of the 82 households have chosen to subscribe to the ultra-fast speeds offered by KC Lightstream.

Sean Royce, commercial and finance director at KC, said: "It's a reflection on the approach that we've taken and our decision to invest in FTTP, rather than deploying fibre to street cabinets and keeping the copper connection from there to the customer's property."

The technology allows KC to offer the speeds it advertises and means it will be able to deliver faster services in the future, he added.
