KC says FTTP will meet needs of the next generation

FTTP will meet the needs of customers for years to come, according to KC.

KC has said its investment in fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband will meet the demands of its customers for a generation.

The east Yorkshire internet service provider is currently rolling out fibre optic broadband to homes and businesses across the region, with its FTTP footprint set to reach 15,000 properties by the end of the year.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail, KC's communications manager Kay Stevenson said the company is eager to meet the needs of its most bandwidth-hungry subscribers not just in the present day, but for years to come.

She explained the 100Mbps speeds provided by KC's Lightstream service is fast enough for users to download a typical music album in just five seconds.

These speeds are available because KC has opted to invest in FTTP rather than fibre-to-the-cabinet technology, which sees fibre optic cables connected to copper networks.

"FTTP technology is future-proof," Ms Stevenson commented. "We have already introduced a service that offers download speeds of 350Mbps and we are testing even faster speeds for launch in the future."
