Leominster Enterprise Park facing £30k bill for fibre broadband

Businesses at Leominster Enterprise Park may have to pay over £30,000 to access superfast broadband.

Businesses based at Leominster Enterprise Park are facing a bill of more than £30,000 if they wish to access fibre optic broadband.

The Herefordshire town has been included in BT's superfast broadband rollout, but the street cabinet serving the Enterprise Park has not been earmarked for an upgrade as part of the commercial deployment, according to the Ledbury Reporter.

As a result, firms at the site face either being left with slower connectivity than much of the rest of the town, or having to stump up the estimated £30,120 required to bring fibre broadband to the park.

A BT spokesman explained the telecoms giant is unable to give any details on whether or not the area is likely to benefit from its Fastershire partnership with Gloucestershire and Herefordshire county councils, which aims to bring superfast speeds to the majority of local homes and businesses.

Helen Bowden, Director at Leominster Enterprise Park-based firm Orphans Press, said: "We are all very concerned and annoyed about the situation as we have been tolerating slow internet speeds for a few years in the knowledge that fibre was coming."
