Mike Weir MP welcomes launch of fibre broadband in Forfar

Tuesday, May 14th 2013 by Paul France
BT has been praised for bringing super-fast broadband to Forfar.

Angus MP Mike Weir has applauded BT for rolling out fibre optic broadband to the first homes and businesses in Forfar.

Engineers are set to complete the local upgrades in the coming weeks, by which time more than 7,400 properties in the market town will be able to access the service.

Forfar has become the latest Angus community to benefit from BT's £2.5 billion commercial fibre broadband programme. Arbroath and Montrose have already been connected, while Brechin, Carnoustie and Kirriemuir are due to be upgraded in the near future.

Responding to the news, Mr Weir hailed the introduction of super-fast connectivity in Forfar as "a major step forward" and said he is looking forward to further rollouts taking place in Angus in due course.

"The internet has become an integral part of daily life for many of my constituents and it's great that local people now have the option of connecting to this exciting technology," he added.
