Plans to improve broadband access in Montrose have been welcomed by local residents.

Homes and businesses in Montrose will benefit from the installation of new superfast broadband connections, following the latest announcement from the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband scheme.

The second phase of this £410 million project will be getting underway in the coming months and local residents have welcomed the news that Montrose is to be included in the latest broadband plans.

Engineers will begin the task of laying new fibre optic cabling and connecting properties to faster connections in the near future, with the potential for communities to receive download speeds of up to 80 Mbps once work in the area is completed.

Sara Budge, programme director for Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband, stated: "By reaching out to those who would not have been covered through the commercial market ... we are ensuring that the connections which are made will bring many benefits to the Scottish people at home and in business."
