The government has created a new voluntary body that will aim to improve access to digital services for vulnerable groups.

A new voluntary body has been set up by the government to improve access to digital services for vulnerable groups.

The Digital Accessibility Alliance will work with government departments, regulators, local authorities, businesses and the not-for-profit sector to help older people and those with disabilities get the most out of connected services.

Both generating and promoting best practice for the use of online services will be at the forefront of the group's activities, while it will also help other bodies maintain compliance with relevant legislation like the Equality Act 2010.

Culture and the Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey stated: "The explosion of digital services provides endless opportunities for all - but the government is all too aware that disabled and older people can often unintentionally be left behind."

Meanwhile, chair of the new Digital Accessibility Alliance Kevin Carey added helping people to embrace the benefits of modern technology and access the range of digital services that are now available can have a real positive impact on their lives.
