Princes Risborough's council chief has stated that BT's fibre broadband rollout will provide many benefits for the area.

News that Princes Risborough will receive fibre broadband has been welcomed by a council boss.

Chairman of Princes Risborough Town Council Alan Turner said BT's decision to include the Buckinghamshire area in its Openreach rollout project will provide many advantages for its 5,000 homes.

"Super-fast broadband has almost become essential to [people who work from home]," he stated, adding: "A lot of businesses will benefit and a lot of individuals will. It is a growing community."

BT plans to give greater access to fibre optic broadband through its £2.5 billion rollout initiative and intends for more than two-thirds of the UK to be able to benefit from faster download speeds by 2015.

Currently, 250,000 people in the country have super-fast internet connection speeds, broadband analyst Point Topic revealed.

It also showed that the number of BT's super-fast broadband lines increased from 54,000 in December 2010 to 86,000 to March 2011.
