Success for Malvern fibre broadband rollout

Monday, August 4th 2014 by Editorial
Fibre broadband has now reached 99 per cent of Malvern properties.

The Worcestershire town of Malvern has experienced significant success with regard to the rollout of superfast fibre optic broadband, as 99 per cent of the area is now able to access the high-speed technology.

A green roadside cabinet in the Swinyard Road area of Malvern Vale is the latest to be switched on to the fibre network, thanks to the Superfast Worcestershire rollout programme, which has enabled Malvern to reach this significant broadband-related milestone. This is despite Malvern Vale initially being thought to be one of the more challenging communities to connect to the superfast service.

Local residents have been reaping the benefits of having access to superfast broadband, with Jackie Degville of Midsummer Close explaining: "It means I can work from home - I can work more flexibly and it makes work more enjoyable."

Better broadband has made its way to so many homes and businesses in Malvern due to the £20 million rollout partnership between network provider BT, Worcestershire County Council and the government-funded Broadband Delivery UK project.

In addition, BT is carrying out its own nationwide rollout project, which will see over 90 per cent of Worcestershire properties connected to fibre broadband by June 2016.
