Super-fast fibre broadband now available in South Shields

South Shields has become the latest area to benefit from the implementation of super-fast fibre broadband.

The north-eastern town of South Shields has become the latest area to receive the implementation of super-fast fibre optic broadband.

Over 19,000 local firms and households are expected to benefit from the new installation, as engineers will be completing the local investment in the coming weeks.

This new development comes as part of a wider £2.5 billion strategy that is currently being rolled out by BT.

Further UK locations are set to be announced in the coming weeks and months - and BT is reportedly also seeking to work in partnership with the local sector to reach other parts of the north-east that lie outside its existing commercial footprint.

Leader of South Tyneside Council Iain Malcolm welcomed the implementation of fibre broadband in South Shields as being a big step forward for the borough.

"At a time when our local economy needs a much-needed boost, important developments such as BT's investment in super-fast broadband offer us the potential to create new opportunities, services and growth," he commented.
