Superfast Cornwall volunteers run Whitstone IT tutorial

Whitstone residents have been given handy tips about using computers and the web.

Adults in the Cornish village of Whitstone have been offered the chance to learn vital IT skills as part of the county's fibre optic broadband partnership with BT.

The taster session took place at Whitstone Community Primary School last week and was run by Whitstone Get IT Together - a group made up of Superfast Cornwall volunteers.

Although this initial event was organised to coincide with the national Adult Learners' Week celebration, plans are afoot for further tutorials to be held at the local parish hall in the coming months.

Whitstone is the latest village in North Cornwall to be included in the Superfast Cornwall fibre broadband rollout, which is being jointly funded by BT, the county council and the EU.

Volunteer and Parish Councillor Mike Sutton said the introduction of high-speed broadband has "really got the community buzzing".

"It has opened up a whole new world of possibilities and has been the inspiration to get our parish hall connected," he explained.
