Fibre broadband is on its way to an additional 11,000 premises in Hampshire.

The communities set to benefit from a fibre broadband connection during phase three of Hampshire's Superfast Broadband Programme have been named, with 11,000 premises to be covered overall.

Areas including Milford-on-Sea, Liphook, Sway, Headley Down, Lockerley and Lymington will gain access to better internet in this next stage.

Leader of Hampshire County Council Roy Perry commented: "Superfast broadband is increasingly important if local households and businesses are to make the most of the huge range of opportunities offered by the internet."

He added the rollout programme is currently on track to achieve its target of connecting 95 per cent of residential and commercial properties in the area to the high-speed technology by the end of 2015.

The delivery of the superfast service in Hampshire has been made possible thanks to £3.8 million of funding from network provider BT and £10 million from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. In addition to this, £18.4 million is to be given by the government and the local county council to secure the rollout's extension and ensure the majority of the area is connected before 2018.
