Two communities in north Wales will now have access to high-speed broadband.

It has been announced that two communities in north Wales will benefit from high-speed fibre broadband.

Homes and businesses in the villages of Gwalchmai on Anglesey and Garn Dolbenmaen in Gwynedd will now be able to access download speeds of up to 30Mbps, as well as upload speeds totalling 20Mbps.

This follows similar schemes in Aberdovey, Amlwch, Cemaes Bay, Corwen, Dyffryn, Gaerwen, Llangefni, Pentraeth and Barmouth in recent months.

Ken Skates, Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology in the Welsh Assembly, said: "Homes and businesses across Anglesey and Gwynedd are already able to access [fibre broadband] and I'm delighted that Gwalchmai and Garn Dolbenmaen are now able to share in these benefits."

This project is managed by Openreach and has been deployed via fibre-to-the-cabinet technology, which has become popular in more rural areas as it is more easily upgradable than other connections.

It it is expected that other rural communities in north Wales will benefit from similar schemes in the coming months.
