Ultrafast trials underway in Swansea

Swansea residents are benefiting from new ultrafast networks in their area.

A cutting-edge trial to deliver ultrafast broadband speeds to more than 100 homes and businesses in Swansea is now underway.

BT engineers are monitoring the new G.fast network, which is aiming to deliver download speeds of between 150 Mbps and 1 Gbps to properties across the Welsh city in the coming months.

The project forms part of a new commitment from the network operator, which has outlined plans to provide broadband speeds in excess of 500 Mbps to the majority of communities across the UK by 2025.

BT's head of operations Mike Galvin stated: "Our technical trial will allow us to evaluate the best way of delivering ultrafast speeds to flats and business premises nationwide."

He added that early laboratory testing has proven positive and it is now in real-world applications that the technology needs to be put through its paces.
