The "ultra-fast" service is now available in the town of Hinckley.

Virgin Media's decision to bring 100Mbps fibre optic broadband to the town of Hinckley has been welcomed by the MP for Bosworth.

David Tredinnick said the move is "very good news" for residents and businesses in the Midlands community, reports the Hinckley Times.

"It demonstrates the confidence that major internet providers such as Virgin Media have in the area," he added.

The "ultra-fast" cable broadband product is also being rolled out in Stockport and Greenock, following a series of deployments in five other towns and villages announced by Virgin at the end of last month.

This service was initially made available to 200,000 properties in Barry, Colchester, Farnborough and Heckmondwike towards the end of 2010.

Jon James, Virgin Media's executive director of broadband, has said the organisation is "racing" to launch the technology in other parts of the UK as soon as possible.

Consumers who sign up for 100Mb broadband will get one of Virgin's SuperHubs, which are capable of delivering maximum speeds of 400Mbps in the future.
