Virgin Media boosts fibre broadband speeds in Swindon

Monday, December 24th 2012 by Paul France
Swindon residents are benefiting from Virgin Media's network upgrades.

Virgin Media has begun doubling the speeds received by its fibre optic broadband subscribers in Swindon.

According to the Swindon Advertiser, residents in the Wiltshire town can now benefit from some of the fastest downstream and upstream speeds in the UK, with some customers seeing their connections upgraded to 120Mbps.

The move comes as part of Virgin Media's nationwide programme to improve the capabilities of its fibre optic broadband network. Once the work is complete, the cable company will have increased the speeds received by more than four million customers.

Engineers from the network operator began the project in March and were aiming to finish it within 18 months.

Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, said the company is delighted to be boosting the speeds available to its subscribers in Swindon.

"By continuing to give our customers faster speeds and greater value services, we're committed to providing our customers the best broadband in the UK," he added.
